August News

Celebrations:

  • The Southeast Service Center Digital Library SORA Contest WInner for Middle School is WHS! (In SY24, our 7th & 8th graders read more books through SORA than their counterparts in Monument Valley, Blanding, Monticello, Moab, Green River, Price, and Emery!)

  • A School Safety Summit hosted by WHS on July 29 was well-attended by area agencies; several recommendations are being implemented for SY25!

  • School starts on Wednesday, August 14!

  • A Back-to-School Night will be hosted on Monday, August 19, from 5-7:30 pm; scholars and parents will get to "choose your own adventure" according to the areas in which they are most interested!

Academic Focus:

Standards Based Grading (SBG) focuses on learning and helps increase achievement. SBG breaks down the subject matter into smaller "learning targets". Each target is a teachable concept that scholars should master by the end of the course. Teachers track learning progress, give feedback, and adapt instruction. The Summative Assessments are currently weighted at 60% (and not yet 70% or 100% as in many SBG systems).
