Dear Parent and Public, Our number one goal is to ensure that students and staff have a safe and welcoming environment that promotes learning, and at this time I am happy to report that students and staff of San Juan School District are safe. Yesterday afternoon, a threatening comment was received at one our schools. Then, latter in the evening a suspicious device appearing to be some type of home-made explosives was found at a second SJSD school. The San Juan County Sherriff’s Department along with the Navajo Nation Police responded and determined it to be non-functional as an explosive device but still dangerous in nature. These incidents added to the recent activity on TikTok and our commitment to ensure the continued safety of students and staff, the decision to was made that Friday December 17th would be a virtual day of instruction for all students. This will allow time for further investigation. I thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this situation. We do believe these incidents are related to the TikTok challenge. We plan on students returning to face-to-face instruction Monday, Dec 20th. Should anything come to light in our ongoing investigation to require a change of plan, we will again reach out to inform parents and public. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we look further into these incidents. Sincerely, Ron Nielson SJSD Superintendent

Dear ARL Families, As you all are aware, there are very cold temperatures in the forecast this week. Last week, our custodians prepared to turn on the boiler system in anticipation of the cold weather. Unfortunately, a leak in the system was discovered, and we are unable to turn on the heat in the building until the leak is fixed. We have repairs scheduled for later in the week. In the meantime, we are working to secure space heaters to keep our classrooms warm. I would suggest making sure your students dress in long sleeves, sweatshirts, or a coat this week if possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and will work as quickly as possible to correct the situation. We will make you all aware of any changes as they occur. Please let me know if you have any questions. Ryan Palmer Principal ARL Middle School
