1/3/23 Power Outage at MZC Update: Parents and stakeholders, due to a prolonged power outage and still no word on when it might be restored, the previously designated "Late Start" for MZC Elementary has been changed to a school day cancellation. Without power, it is very problematic to ensure a warm, safe learning environment and providing lunch is also very difficult. Many rooms have no heat or lights. All updates regarding tomorrow (1/4/23) will be posted on school webpage and Facebook page. Please check back frequently. Thank you for your patience as we work through this matter.
Merry Christmas to All! SJSD hopes all our students, parents, and patrons, have a safe and merry holiday season. We thank you for your support and value your partnership in best serving the wonderful students of this county. Please be reminded that school will be dismissed for students on Dec 22 through Jan 3rd. Jan 2nd will be a teacher work day. Thank You!
Dear Parent(s) and Stakeholders,
The San Juan School District Board of Education members are seeking information to help best serve its patrons. As a consequence of the Covid19 Pandemic, it was necessary to suspend the practice of rotating board meeting locations from school to school within the county and hold them in one location (the Boardroom at the District Office in Blanding) and broadcast them virtually to parents and stakeholders. A modern, efficient broadcast system has been purchased and installed in the Board Room in the District Office in Blanding. This system was purchased using ESSER Care funds to help facilitate effective public participation into the virtual board meetings. A rise in participation of patrons resulted. In the past five months, the lowest number of viewers has been 60 with the highest being over a 100. These numbers are substantially higher than participation numbers in meetings prior to the Pandemic.
Now with the Pandemic subsiding to some degree, the Board of Education is seeking some input regarding the best way to provide stakeholder access to board meetings in the future. Should board meetings return to a rotation of in-person meetings at schools where broadcasting effectiveness is less than ideal due to many factors, or should board meetings remain in the Board Room in Blanding and be broadcasted virtually to patrons utilizing the modern, effective system? The Board of Education is asking you to provide your input into the decision by completing the attached survey. Thank you so much for your valuable time.

Dear SJSD Parents and Public,
In response to a growing need for more time for teachers to participate in and complete state required literacy training, as well as more teacher time to support lesson plan development for an 80 min instructional block, the SJSD Board of Education approved to change Dec 22nd from a regular day of school to a teacher work day. For students, this means this year's Christmas/Holiday break will begin on Dec 22nd and run through Dec 31st with regular school resuming on Monday, Jan 3rd. If questions or concerns arise regarding this decision, please reach out to your child’s school administration. As always, we appreciate and value our parents and other educational partners.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Ron Nielson
